Abstract
1294096 Stabilizing olefin polymers SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ NV 5 Nov 1969 [7 Nov 1968] 54215/69 Heading C3P Stabilized polymer compositions comprise a linear polymer of a C 2-8 alpha mono-olefin, 0À02 to 0À6 weight per cent of a non-volatile phenolic or phosphite ester antioxidant of molecular weight in excess of 300, and 0À05 to 0À6 weight per cent of dimyristyl thiodipropionate. The polymer may be derived from ethylene, propylene, butene-1, 4-methylpentene-1 and/or hexene-1. The compositions may also contain low molecular weight phenolic antioxidants, e.g. 2,6 - di - t - butyl - 4 - methylphenol; nucleating agents, e.g. sodium benzoate; lubricants, e.g. calcium stearate; and other conventional additives. Examples describe composition of polypropylene; dimyristyl, dilauryl and distearyl thiodipropionates; and (A) 1,3,5-trimethyl- 2,4,6 - tri - (3,5 - di - t - butyl - 4 - hydroxyphenyl) benzene, (B) 1,1,3-tris-(2-methyl-4-hydroxy-5-t-butylphenyl) butane, (C) trisnonylphenyl phosphite, (D) tetrakis [methylene- 3-(3<SP>1</SP>,5<SP>1</SP> - di - t - butyl - 4<SP>1</SP> - hydroxyphenyl) propionate] methane, (E) 2,6-dioctadecyl-4-methylphenol and (F) di-n-octadecyl-3,5-di-t-butyl-4- hydroxybenzyl phosphonate.
