Abstract
1293416 Air-burst pyrotechnic shells HAND CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 1 Oct 1970 [9 April 1970] 46799/70 Heading F3A An air-burst pyrotechnic shell comprises a container 1, Fig. 7, for holding a bursting charge B and stars " S ", an integral holder 5 for a fuze F, and caps 11 and 9. Two containers may be connected together by an optional member 20 and wrapped in a layer of paper P. A fuzecord Q leads to a propellant charge P which is provided to project the shell from a mortar and also serves to ignite the lower fuze F. The upper fuze F is ignited from the charge B by a fuze-cord 7. The fuzes F may contain tracer compositions. Shock absorbers 30 are provided to mitigate the effects of projection. The stars " S " may be mixed with whistles, buzzers and similar audio-pyrotechnic devices. The container 1, caps 9 and 11, and connector 20 are moulded from polyethylene, polypropylene, P.V.C., P.V.A:, nylon, polyethylene terephthalate or polystyrene. In another embodiment, Fig. 12, the shell comprises hemispheres 40 and 41, an integral fuze-holder 5 with a cap 11, a cap 9, a paper layer P, a fuze-cord Q and a propellant P. Shells, as described with reference to Fig. 7, are contained with stars " S " in the bursting charge B.
