Abstract
1293177 Gas separation LINDE AG 10 Dec 1969 [11 Dec 1968] 60236/69 Heading B1L In the removal of a constituent from a gaseous mixture by means of a solvent the gaseous mixture is passed upwardly through a plate column 6 in countercurrent to a solvent and the heat of solution is at least partly removed by withdrawing the gaseous mixture at 7 below a plate, passing it through coolers 8 and 9 and returning it to the column above the plate. The gaseous mixture is cooled by indirect heat exchange with cold solvent withdrawn from the column 6 for regeneration in a column 16 after being cooled in a refrigerator 11. In one application H 2 S and CO 2 are removed from a hydrogen containing gas by means of methanol at a low temperature the gaseous mixture withdrawn at 7 having a temperature of -20‹C and the returned cooled gas has a temperature of -45‹C. In an alternative embodiment the withdrawn gaseous mixture is passed through a liquid separator after passing through the coolers 8 and 9 before being returned to the column 6.
