Abstract

1291214 Typhoid vaccine SCHWEIZ SERUM-UND IMPFINSTITUT UND INSTITUT ZUR ERFORSCHUNG DER INFEKTIONSKRANKHEITEN 11 June 1971 [29 April 1971] 27578/71 Heading A5B Orally administrable typhoid vaccine contains live, stable, epimerase-negative deletion mutants of virulent strains of Salmonella typhi. The mutants preferably have attenuated galactokinase and galacto - 1 - phosphate-uridyl transferase activity. They may be produced by subjecting a culture of Salmonella typhi to a mutaferic treatment and then injecting it with a smooth specific bacteriophase, e.g. type FO-1, thereby removing the normal smooth bacteria but retaining the rough mutants.
