Abstract
1291076 Current collectors BETA INSTRUMENT CO Ltd 30 Nov 1970 [10 Dec 1969] 60335/69 Heading H2E . A conductive connection between a rotatablymounted conductive member and a second member, which may be rotatably mounted, is made through a molten metal or alloy with melting point in the range O C. to 150 C. The resistance between the two members via the molten metal is in the range 0À001 microohms to 1 ohm. As shown, conductive shafts 1, 2, connected to conductive pulleys 4, 3, are mounted coaxially in bearings 5, 6, held in insulating sleeves 8, 9, within a fixed outer casing 7. The shafts are electrically connected through metal 10 which, when molten is trapped in a space between them by an 0-ring seal 11 mounted on a bearing 12. A heating element 13, which rotates with shaft 1, is supplied with current by means of brushes 14 and sliprings 15. Other forms of heating element may be used. An expansion chamber 16 and a greasing duct 17 are also provided. A list is given of suitable alloys for use in the device.
