Jacks.-A lifting-jack for motor road and other vehicles comprises two or more members connected to each other by antifriction nut and screw gearing and moved telescopically and simultaneously. The casing 1 of the jack is secured to the axle 2 by lugs 32 and a clamping-plate 33, Fig. 3, or by an extension 65 rotatably mounted in a plate 66, Fig. 7. In the latter construction, tho jack is held in operative and inoperative position by spring plungers 67, mounted in the casing 1, which engages recesses 68 in the plate 66. Spring clips 69 covered with rubber may be provided to form an additional means of holding the jack inoperative. A sleeve 6 formed with a helical semicircular groove 7 is secured in the casing 1 and is connected to a similarly grooved rotatable member 4 by balls 8 which circulate through a channel 9 connecting the ends of the groove 7. A similarly grooved sleeve 10 is secured to the lower end of the member 4 and co-operates with a grooved slidable rod 12 which is prevented from rotating by engagement with a square rod 18 depending from the casing 1. A bevel-gear 19 fixed to the sleeve 10 is rotated by a gear 20 on a shaft 21 formed with a. squared end 26 for the reception of the end of the actuating-handle, which is preferably of brace shape. The shaft 21 is mounted in a casing 22 winch slides with the sleeve 4 and is separated therefrom and from the gear 19 by roller bearings. A pawl 28 on the casing 22 engages a ratchetwheel 27 on the shaft 21. The base 16 of the jack is provided with a washer 31 which bears against the casing when the jack is in the inoperative position and excludes dust. In a modification, the gear 19, Fig. 5, is mounted at the upper part of the casing 1, and, in this construction, as well as in that illustrated hy Fig. 3, the jacks may be actuated from the side of the car. The shaft 21 is connected by a shaft 50 and bevel-gears 51, 56 to a shaft 55 which passes under the running-board of the car and carries the actuating-handle. The shafts 21, 50 are mounted in bearings provided with self-alining ball races 64.
