Abstract

1290178 Temperature control in glass fibre manufacture OWENS-CORNING FIBERGLAS CORP 18 Sept 1969 [18 Sept 1968] 46069/69 Heading C1M [Also in Division G3] In the production of glass fibres by flowing a stream of molten glass through orifices in a feeder, heat applied to the feeder is regulated in response to an average control signal, which signal is obtained by periodically sensing the temperature of the feeder and deriving a signal proportional to the average of a last predetermined number of sensed temperatures. The control signal may be derived continuously or only after the predetermined number of temperatures have been sensed. The temperature is sensed by one or more thermocouples 42 whose signal is periodically sensed by averaging circuit 44 which in turn supplies an average temperature signal for controller 46. The controller compares the signal with a desired set point temperature and controls the supply of heat to the feeder accordingly. The operation of the circuit 44 may be analogue or digital.
