Abstract
1290103 Catalytic conversion of methylated phenols CONSOLIDATION COAL CO 18 Feb 1970 [19 Feb 1969] 7763/70 Heading C2C A process of isomerizing or disproportionating a methylphenol (which is selected from the group consisting of o-cresol, xylenols, and mixtures thereof and phenol methylates) to obtain a product which is rich in methylphenol cresol comprises contacting said methylphenol in a vapour phase at a temperature of 375‹ to 525‹ C. with a silica-alumina catalyst consisting essentially of 1 to 30% by weight of alumina and 99 to 70% silica, said catalyst having a surface area of less than 200 square metres per gram, and collecting the product vapours.
