Abstract
1289835 Sodium and aluminium phosphides; pyrotechnic compositions ALBRIGHT & WILSON Ltd 19 June 1970 [20 June 1969] 31293/69 Headings C1A and C1D [Also in Division G4] A chemical combination or mixture of sodium and aluminium phosphides is claimed per se. A1P and Na 3 P may be present in a ratio of from 1 : 1 to 2 : 1. It may be prepared by reacting phosphorus with a mixture of Na and Al; for instance, by passing P vapour over a mixture of Na and Al or by heating white P with the metallic mixture in the absence of oxygen. In an example, Al powder, Na and amorphous P contained in oil were loaded in a box to which a lid was fitted and heated with a gas flame until reaction commenced. After the reaction finished, the product was covered with paraffin and broken up.
