Abstract
1289346 Traverse mechanisms ERNEST SCRAGG & SONS Ltd 5 May 1970 [9 May 1969] 23645/69 Heading D1J A disturber mechanism for avoiding ribbon winding in a yarn winding apparatus comprises a plurality of yarn traversing guides 14, an hydraulically actuated piston 21 causing the guides 14 to reciprocate, and means for causing an axial oscillation of the cylinder 19 in which the piston 21 reciprocates. In Fig. 1 the piston 21 is coupled to straps 18 mounted on quadrants 17. The traverse guides 14 are carried by the straps 18. The resulting oscillation of the quadrants 17 is transmitted by a ratchet mechanism 27 to a worm 28 driving a wheel 29. The wheel 29 drives an eccentric 25 that causes the cylinder 19 to oscillate on supports 30. In Fig. 4 the cylinder 19 is rigid with a support 24 that has pins 48 sliding in inclined slots 47 in vertically oscillated plates 46. The plates 46 are oscillated by an eccentric 25 driven by a unidirectional clutch 27' via levers 26', 50 coupled to the quadrant 17. A variable delivery hydraulic pump 31 is driven by a constant speed motor 32 and supplies cylinder 19. The pump 31 has a delivery control device 33 that is rotatable to adjust the speed of the piston 21. Varying the traverse speed. In Fig. 4 the unidirectional clutch 27' also drives a cam 38 that rocks a lever 37 about a roller 41. The rocking movement of the lever 37 is transmitted by the arm 34' to the delivery control device 33. A screw 42' permits the setting of the roller 41 to be varied. The cam illustrated gives a saw tooth variation to the traverse speed of the piston 21 which cyclically speed up gradually by up to 10% for about one minute and then suddenly drop to their lowest traverse rate (or alternatively speed up suddenly and slow dawn gradually). Different cams can be substituted, for example a cam that gives simple harmonic speed variation. Fig. 3 (not shown) illustrates a modified mechanism for adjusting the delivery control device 33. In this embodiment a geared motor (39), rotating at about one revolution per minute, carries a cam (38) that rocks a lever 37 about a pivot axis (36). A roller (41) is sandwiched between the lever (37) and a lever (34) that rocks the control device 33. The free ends of the levers (37) and (34) are biassed towards each other by a spring (35). Rocking of the lever (37) causes rocking of the lever (34), the relative displacements depending upon the setting of the roller (41) that is adjustably positionable. Varying the traverse stroke. The eccentric 25, Fig. 1, has adjustable eccentricity so that the amplitude of oscillation of the actuating cylinder 19 can be varied from zero to approximately 1/4".
