1288651 Push-button switches; successive actuation ARROW-HART Inc 12 Aug 1970 [13 Aug 1969] 38837/70 Heading H1N A push-button switch has an actuating unit (Figs. 2, 5) and a readily detachable switching unit 60. The switching unit has spring arms 69a which are a push fit on to lugs 40L on the body of the actuating unit. Similar lugs 62L on the switching unit allow the addition of further similar units for conjoint actuation. The switching unit comprises a resiliently mounted bridging contact on a sliding rod 67 which is moved by a rod 51 protruding from the actuating unit. The latter comprises a moulded platics housing 20 and an end cap 40. The housing 20 contains a lamp 24 in a holder formed of a spring clip 25 and contact 27; these have portions 26, 28 extending out through the end cap 40 and formed with resilient projections 26s, 28s which retain the end cap. A transparent push-button 23 is retained in the housing by lugs 23t on resilient arms 23<SP>1</SP> and acts on arms 31 of an actuating member 30. A projecting finger 34 of the member 30 cooperates with another member 50 and two hair springs 53, 54 (Fig. 4, not shown) to provide push-on push-off operation of the switching unit. Fig. 11a shows the parts in the contacts closed position. Spring 54<SP>1</SP> has an extension which bears on spring 53<SP>1</SP> defining a minimum spacing: spring 53<SP>1</SP> is stronger and pushes spring 54<SP>1</SP> to the right as shown. If now member 30 is depressed by the push-button finger 34 pushes spring 54 to the right and a cam surface 52c on member 50 pushes spring 53 to the left until it snaps over a projection 52s to retain the member 50 in the contacts open position. On release of the push-button, finger 34 is withdrawn and spring 54 allowed to move further to the left. A second depression causes finger 34 to push spring 54<SP>1</SP> to the left, the extension thereon pushing spring 53 off the projection 52s to release the contacts to the closed position.
