Abstract
1288100 Electro-photography RANK XEROX Ltd 2 Feb 1970 [10 Feb 1969] 4919/70 Heading G2H In the production of a printing plate by deposition of gelatin toner from a liquid developer on to an electrostatic image, the developer comprises finely divided gelatin particles, finely divided pigment particles in a proportion of 1/5 to 1/100 of the gelatin, and a carrier liquid having an electrical resistivity of greater than 10<SP>10</SP> ohm cm. The pigment particles, which may be positively or negatively charged, are present to render the gelatin image readily visible. The gelatin particles may have a particle size of less than 5 microns. Separate dispersions of gelatin and pigment particles in carrier liquid may be mixed. The gelatin dispersion may be produced from a concentrate comprising a varnish (produced from linseed oil and rosin-modified phenol-formaldehyde), toluene, xylene, and a non-ionic surface active agent. Alternative methods for production of the finely divided gelatin are specified. When the electrostatic image is produced using zinc oxide as photo-conductive material, the zinc oxide is removed by an acid treatment after hardening of the gelatin.
