Abstract

1287943 Coated projection screens FUJI PHOTO FILM CO Ltd 3 Sept 1969 [4 Sept 1968] 43566/69 Heading B2E [Also in Division G2] A reflective projection screen for cinematograph films and transparencies comprises a support having a light-reflecting metallic surface on which is coated a light scattering layer comprising a transparent or translucent continuous phase and transparent or translucent particles dispersed and wholly embedded therein, the particles having a different retractive index from that of the continuous phase. The suport may comprise an aluminium, stainless steel, chromium, nickel, zinc or tin plate or foil, a vacuum deposited film of aluminium, a silver plate, a silver mirror surface or a silver yarn woven cloth. An aluminium plate having fine uni-directional lines formed thereon and produced by compressively rolling two aluminium plates in face-to-face contact with one another and separating them, may be used. Transparent or translucent particles having 0.2-10 microus grain size which may be of glass or silica or powders of synthetic resins, e.g. polystyrene, polyamide or polyester may be used. The continuous phase may be a watersoluble or organic solvent soluble binder, e.g. gelatin, a cellulose derivative, a homo- or copolymer of a vinyl compound or an unsaturated polyester. A dispersion of the particles in the binder may be applied to the surface of the support and dried.
