Abstract

1287547 Development of black-and-white negative silver halide photographic material FUJI PHOTO FILM CO Ltd 19 April 1971 [16 March 1970] 24738/71 Heading G2C An exposed black-and-white negative photographic silver halide material is developed, partially bleached with a solution containing an oxidizing agent and an inorganic halide at a pH insufficient to completely dissolve or oxidize the silver and then given a second development in a black-and-white developer. The first developer may comprise hydroquinone and sodium sulphiteparaformaldehyde adduct and may contain ascorbic acid and/or sodium sulphite (with development). The pH of the bleaching solution is preferably not less than 1. In the case of dot images "dot etching" is not required after development, since the quality of the dot image is improved to such an extent that a sharp printed image may be obtained, and also silver halide may be saved by thinning the emulsion layer or by decreasing the content of silver halide in the emulsion layer,
