Abstract

1287528 Gate operating device ARGENTON SA 27 April 1970 [28 April 1969] 20059/ 70 Heading E2M A cam 4 is eccentrically mounted on a gate shaft 5 between two free pistons 2, 3 in a cylinder 1, the introduction of a pressurized fluid to either end of the cylinder rotating the cam and shaft 5. Fluid may be admitted to either end of the cylinder through separate inlets (6, 7) Fig 1, (not shown) or, as shown, fluid may be admitted to one end 14 of the cylinder, a system of narrow tubes 15 controlled by a ball valve 16 admitting the fluid to a larger end 13, the system being such that, on opening the inlet 20 to the atmosphere, the pressure in end 13 moves the piston to the right. Alternatively, fluid may be admitted to only the end 14, a system of springs (21), Fig. 3 (not shown) being arranged in the other end to urge the piston 2 to the right. The pistons, which may be of differing cross-sections, have a sealing ring 11 and may be set in a selflubricating material; or the point of contact between them and the cam may be a detachable cap of hard, self-lubricating material or a roller. The cam may have a belt of hard steel or may be shaped as in Fig. 4 which may be of a light metal surrounded by a flexible strip 23. Gate position indicators may be incorporated with the cylinder.
