Abstract

1287411 Sandwich preparing machine SANDWICHES (GLASGOW) Ltd 8 Dec 1969 [6 Sept 1968] 42388/68 Heading A2B A sandwich preparing machine comprises an endless conveyor system for passing at least one line of bread slices, with means for delivering the slices to the system, apparatus located over the system in the path of the slices for spreading a viscous material such as butter on the slices, the conveyor system including a pair of conveyor lines, a stationary first receiver for slices from one of the lines and a second receiver adjacent the first for receiver slices from the other line, and being pivoted to enable the slice therein to be placed over the slice in the first receiver, with indicating means, such as micro switches, to indicate when there are slices in both receivers and to actuate the pivoting, and means for applying sandwich filling material, for example meat slices which are sliced from a block of meat by a rotating knife over the bread, to the bread slices passing on at least one of the lines. In one form there are two conveyors, each provided with a spreading apparatus, and in another form there is a first conveyor provided with the spreading apparatus, the spread bread being then fed to two further conveyors, one of which is provided with the means for supplying the filling. The finished sandwich may be delivered to a device which turns and cuts the sandwich, which device may comprise a vertically moving reciprocating member having cutting blades disposed at the lower end thereof. The spreading apparatus may comprise an open-bottomed container including a roller which transfers on its surface the viscous material to the bread.
