Abstract

1287354 Artificial legs J E HANGER & CO Ltd 7 May 1971 [28 April 1970] 20237/70 Heading A5R An artificial leg comprises a shin portion 1 having a downwardly and rearwardly sloping plate 4 which is connected by two pairs of pivoted links to a horizontal plate 7 mounted on a thigh portion. The forward pair of links 11 is shorter than the rearward pair 12 and the instantaneous centre of rotation of pivotal movement of the thigh portion 7 about the shin portion 1, from the fully extended position, ascends for a predetermined angle of pivotal movement, before descending. Links 11, 12 are secured by bolts 13 to lugs 5, 6 and 8, 9 attached to the sloping plate 4 and to the horizontal plate 7 respectively. Both links 11 and 12 are cranked so as to permit flexing of the leg to a sitting posture without interference.
