1287068 Finishing fabrics EUGEN BELLMANN GmbH MASCHINENFABRIK 19 April 1971 [4 Feb 1970] 22351/71 Heading D1S A shaping apparatus for tights comprises two separate shaping units 1, 1a and a stretching device arranged between the units 1, 1a and serving to stretch the trunk part of tights 5 pulled over the units 1, 1a, the stretching device comprising two stretching members 2, 2a pivoted to the units 1, 1a in the vicinity of the longitudinal edges thereof so as to be capable of swinging downwards from a vertical operative position, Fig. 1, into an inoperative position, Fig. 3 (not shown), in which the tights can be mounted on or removed from the apparatus. The units 1, 1a are two flat stocking formers arranged parallel to each other. The members 2, 2a are hair-pin shaped wires having widened bends at their upper ends and the lower ends of which are fixed to hubs 3, 3a rotatable about pins 4, 4a connecting the units 1, 1a. Helical springs 6, 6a cover the members 2, 2a. Two levers 8, 8a project from the hubs 3, 3a and are connected by a pin 9 on one lever engaging an elongate slot on the other lever. A spring 7 surrounding the levers 8, 8a normally holds the levers in the position of Fig. 1 so that the members 2, 2a stretch the trunk part of the tights V-wise, Fig. 2, to prevent creases leading to faults in the dyeing. The members 2, 2a are moved manually, by gripping one of them, into the inoperative position. In modifications (not shown), (a) instead of the articulated lever connection system, the members 2, 2a are connected by gearing or linkage parallelograms; (b) the single spring 7 is replaced by a spring for each member; (c) only one of the members 2, 2a is pivotable while the other remains rigid in the vertical position; (d) those parts of the members 2, 2a which contact the tights are rendered permeable to dye liquor by replacing the helical springs by perforated metal plates or fabric screens; and (e) the stretching members are made of sheet metal instead of wire.
