Abstract
1286732 Charging cold liquefied gas containers PARKER-HANNIFIN CORP 24 April 1970 [28 April 1969] 19815/70 Heading F4P A closed receiver 16 containing residual liquid nitrogen is charged from a closed liquid nitrogen supply container 2 through conduit means 10, 12, 28, 19 terminating in a spray 21 which serves to decrease the vapour pressure in the receiver 16 and enable it to be charged without the need for venting; the apparatus having means, e.g. a pump 3, for establishing a pressure differential between the container 2 and the vapour space of receiver 16. On putting an operating unit 9 in the "fill" position a solenoid valve 5 in the charging conduit opens to equalize pressure in container 2 and receiver 16 after which a timer 29 switches on a pump motor 30 which forces liquid nitrogen through said conduit means and spray 21. In the event of the temperature and hence pressure in the vapour space of receiver 16 falling below a level sensed by a unit 8 valve 5 partially closes and a valve 6 in a by-pass 14 opens whereof a portion of the pump 3 delivery is warmed in a heat exchanger 4. As shown, sensing unit 8 is adjacent the supply conduit but it may be disposed within the receiver 16. Charging is terminated when a level sensor 23 switches on an indicator lamp 32 and switches off the push motor 30 and closes valves 5, 6. In a modification the pump is dispensed with and the liquid nitrogen supply container is provided with a pressure build-up coil.
