Abstract

128,658. Ward, G. L. Aug. 28, 1917. Coating processes; coating-machines. -In the method of applying varnishes containing volatile solvent by spraying, air highly charged with the vapour of the solvent is used as the propelling and spraying medium, in order to prevent the premature evaporation of the solvent. The medium may be fed to the spraying-nozzle either in admixture with the varnish or from a separate source. The spraying-operation may be performed within a closed chamber charged with the above-mentioned medium, means being provided for passing the articles to be varnished in front of a series of spraying-nozzles without opening the chamber to the atmosphere. The medium may be pumped from the chamber back through the spray. The varnished articles may be dried in a chamber provided with exhausting- means so that the vapours of the solvent may be condensed for re-use.
