1286483 Film holder in a film reader SAAB-SCANIA A B 25 Aug 1969 [28 Aug 1968] 42248/69 Heading G2A A film reader especially for bubble-chamber films comprises a film holding device for positioning the film relative to the optical axis, movable automatically and manually in directions parallel to and perpendicular to the film strip, the film being wound from and on to film reals movable with the holding device in the direction perpendicular to the strip by mechanical linkage or by servo-means. As shown three film strips 8 are movable across table 7 from reel housing 9 through holding device 72 to similar reel housing 9 at the opposite end of table 7. Table 7 is screw driven transversely on rails 87 by motor 90 and platform 73 supporting holding device 72 is similarly movable longitudinally along rails 79 by motor 84. Movement is controlled by a computer programme, fine adjustments being made manually. Film winding is also computer controlled, each frame being labelled and holding device 72 is actuated on the required frame appearing at the projection aperture. The reel containers 9 are screw driven by motor 90 with the table 7 by means of pulley 98 and threaded rod 99. Film is transported to the holding device 72 by capstan rollers 10 and vacuum operated switches 77 control the film reels 75. Corresponding movement of table 7 and containers 9 may be obtained using a servosystem Fig.4 (not shown) the table 7 and containers 9 having independent motors. Television and other photo-electric frame scanning means are provided for simultaneous operation.
