Abstract

1285966 Machines with permanent magnets BENDIX CORP 19 Aug 1969 [16 Sept 1968] 41295/69 Heading H2A The rotor of a generator or motor comprises a magnetic ring 27 secured to the shaft 13, an annular array 35 of permanent magnets disposed around the magnetic ring 27, and non- magnetic annuli 30 fixed to the shaft at each end of the array of permanent magnets, the magnets being held in position by cured rigid adhesive 36, 37, 39. The magnetic ring 27 is supported on shoulders 29 of the stainless steel shaft 13 and is brazed (32, 34) to the shaft and the non-magnetic annuli 30. The magnets may each have only one pair of poles, as in Fig. 5, and a non-magnetic retaining sleeve 42 may be heat-shrunk around the rotor. Alternatively (Fig. 6, not shown) each permanent magnet may provide a number of circumferentiallyspaced pole pairs, and the retaining sleeve may be formed with alternate magnetic (51) and non- magnetic (50) portions, the magnetic portions constituting pole pieces. The stator of the generator shown has alternate wound and unwound poles 17, 19, with six coils 16 connected together in pairs to provide three separate outputs.
