Abstract

1285895 Bituminous composition COMPAGNIE FRANCAISE DE RAFFINAGE 12 Nov 1969 [13 Nov 1968] 55431/69 Heading C3N A bituminous composition consists of an aggregate, bituminous binder and a filler which has a largest particle dimension of less than 80 Á and consists of or contains a solid organic filler component containing at least 80% by weight carbon, having a C/H ratio of more than 12 and comprising at least 80% by weight carboids. Carboids are defined as that fraction of the organic filler component which is insoluble in carbon disulphide. The organic filler component may be a petroleum coke or a coal coke. The petroluem coke may be obtained by "fluid coking" and "delayed coking" processes. The aggregate has a particle size greater than 80 Á and generally ranges between 80 Á and 12À5 mm. and may consist of a combination of gravel, pebbles and sand. The filler may also include a fire-sand or limestone. The bituminous binder is derived from petroleum or coal and may be obtained by direct distillation, fluxing deasphalting pitches or vacuum distillation residue, or blowing bitumen. The bituminous binder may also be natural asphalt, tar or pitch or a mixture of any of these materials. It may also be mixed with plastics materials, e.g. tar and polyvinylchloride; or bitumen and rubber latex. A suitable bituminous concrete contains 93 parts by weight of aggregate, 7 parts by weight filler and 6À5 parts by weight binder based on the total weight of aggregate and filler. Specific examples disclose compositions specifying the amounts of binder, aggregate and filler in which examples the bituminous binder has a penetration of 80/100 in dmm. at 25‹ C.
