Abstract
1285841 Umbrella handles BREMSHEY A G 8 Jan 1971 [24 Jan 1970] Heading A4P An umbrella frame has at the lower end of its stick, a handle 17 provided with a carrying loop and formed by a body 68 and a cap which covers a face of the body remote from the stick, wherein in addition to a coupling which holds the cap on to the body, there are also anchoring pins 70 projecting upwards from the base of the cap and engaging with their free ends in recesses 75<SP>1</SP> in the body 68. The preferred umbrellas are of the shortenable type having a generally rectangular transverse cross-section when folded and provided with a crown, main slider and auxiliary slider of generally rectangular transverse cross-section. In a first embodiment the umbrella stick and ribs each consist of three telescopic parts. The handle cap (69), Fig.3 (not shown), is provided with two anchoring pins 70, circular in crosssection and extending parallel to the axis of the stick 1. The anchoring pins 70 are situated just inwardly of slots (73), extending transversely across the cap and receiving the ends 18<SP>1</SP> of a carrying strap each end 18<SP>1</SP> of the strap being provided with a hole through which the corresponding anchoring pin 70 passes. The recesses 75<SP>1</SP> are formed between transverse walls 95, 96, the innermost walls 96 also forming a recess 67 for housing a main slider sleeve 12<SP>1</SP>. Shoulders 78 project from the walls 96 into said recess 67 to receive hook members 77 projecting upwardly from the base of the cap (69), to snap-lock the cap on to the body 68. A cylindrical bush 98 accommodates the foot of the stick 1 and is secured in place by a transverse fixing pin 88. In a second embodiment the umbrella stick and ribs each consist of two telescopic parts, the lower part (4), Fig. 7 (not shown), of the stick having a hexagonal cross-section for reception into a hexagonal recess in a cylindrical bush 98 integrally formed in the body 68, Fig.12. The bush 98 is supported by a transverse web 21 and a transverse rib (23), Fig. 9 (not shown). Formed integrally with the cap 69 and projecting upwardly therefrom is a hollow spigot 25 which penetrates into the tubular lower end of the stick, the parts being secured in place with a transverse fixing pin 88. The cap 69 is provided with two pairs of anchor pins 70 located adjacent the outer edge of the cap so that each pin 70 abuts the inner surface (22<SP>1</SP>), Fig. 14 (not shown), of the wall (22) of the body 68, precisely locating the cap 69 with respect to the body 68. The carrying loop strap is attached externally of the body 68 by means of a lug 39.
