Abstract

1285042 Heating liquids in bulk POWER FREQUENCY HEATING Ltd 14 Jan 1970 [15 Jan 1969] 2306/69 Heading F4S [Also in Division H5] A heater unit intended to be removably attached by flexible or resilient straps to the wall 15 of a container for fluid to be heated, comprises a longitudinally extending tubular heating element 1, through which heating fluid may be passed, located in a slot 5 in a housing 6. The heating element 1 may alternatively (as shown) comprise an electric resistance element, is of substantially D-shaped cross-section and is arranged in a slot 5 so that the flat face 3 is exposed and the convex portion 4 makes only line contact with other parts of the slot. The housing 6 comprises aluminium plates 7, 8 which may be laminated to make then flexible. Resilient strips of aluminium 10, incorporated in plate 7, bias the tube 1 against a flexible copper sheet 11. A further brass casing 12, spaced from the housing 6, is secured thereto by bolts 9. A strap 13 resiliently retained in bolts 9 by springs 14, is provided to urge the sheet 11 into flat contact with the container 15 of fluid to be heated. The flexibility of housing 6 and sheet 11 permit the heater assembly to accomodate itself to a moderate curvature of the body 15. The assembly is intended to heat fluids such as lubricating oil in I.C. engines, liquids in hydraulic machines, glucose, waxes and liquids to render them less viscous.
