Abstract
1284389 High voltage circuit breakers; electromagnetic actuation of switches VYSOKE UCENI TECHNICKE 21 July 1970 [24 July 1969 25 July 1969] 35162/70 Heading HlN A high voltage circuit breaker has fixed contacts 1, 2, 3 and 4 with relatively movable contacts 5 and 6 a current sensitive control device operating one or other of the movable contacts depending on the severity of the current overload. An electromagnetic actuator has two pivoted armatures 13, 14 acted upon by coil 11 wound on yoke 12. The armatures, due to the projection (19) only one of which can move at any one time, are connected via respective, linkages 17, 18 to sleeve contact 6 and contact 5 mounted on insulating rod 7, respectively. An overload within a predetermined limit detected by a current transformer connected to coil 11 causes armature 13 to pivot and move contact 6 away from contact 2 and then contact 3. The arc drawn between contacts 6 and 3 is extinguished by means of the oppositely poled diodes 8 now connected in series with the arc, Fig. 3 (not shown). A severe overload causes armature 14 to pivot and move rod 7 and hence contact 5 away from contact 1, the resulting arc being extinguished by means of an air or gas, e.g. 5F 6 , blast. Alternatively the arc may be extinguished in an arc extinguishing chamber containing oil or 5F 6 .
