Abstract

1284226 Curtain walls CRITTALL-HOPE Ltd 20 March 1970 [20 March 1969] 14715/69 Headings E1R and E1W The curtain wall comprises a framework of galvanised steel hollow box-like framing members 15 with a longitudinal projecting nose 27 on their outward facing side. The vertical mullions are joined end to end by an internal sleeve and extend the height of the building. Transoms 33 are secured to the mullions by means of bolts 43 through an angle bracket 35 welded to the mullion as well as by means of bolts 47 passing through the extended nose of the transom and a tapped bar 37 welded through the nose of the mullion. Field panels or double or single glazing panels are held by resiliently deformable neoprene glazing strips 55, 59 at their edges in the channels formed on either side of the nose by the bolting of a longitudinal web 61 to the nose 27. P.V.C. packing strip 53 is used with thin panels or single glazing. A stainless steel channel section facia member 69 is releasably secured to the web by a snap on or sliding action. Mastic 75 may be used to provide a final weather seal and the framework is fixed to the building structure by means of angle bracket welded to the back of the mullions and bolted to inserts in the building structure.
