Abstract
1283663 Packaging stacks of flat articles IZADATELSTVO IZVESTIA 12 March 1971 6739/71 Heading B8C In a method of wrapping stacks of articles such as newspapers a stack of newspapers 1 is placed on a lifting and lowering table 2, a web of paper 4 is drawn from a reel 3 over the stack, an inverted U-shaped frame 5, mounted on a chain conveyer 6, is located above the stack, and the table 2 is raised so that the web and stack are pushed into the frame to wrap the stack along its upper and two lateral sides. The free end of the paper web 4 is then folded up beneath the bottom face of the stack by a pusher 7 which is then retracted, and the paper web is then cut by shears 8. At this stage the conveyer 6 is started to move the stack over a plate 9 which causes the cut-off end of the web to be folded up under the bottom face of the package. The table 2 is then lowered to its initial position, the frame 5 and package being transferred to a station where the open ends of the folded web are closed against the ends of the stack by means of pairs of reciprocatable plates 11, 11 and 13, 13 and are glued together by means 15. A plate 20, which is vertically movable within the frame 5 to press the wrapping paper down on to the stack, has projecting tongues 19 which are vertically slidably accommodated in slots 18 in the sides of the frame.
