Abstract
1283332 Perkins tubes SIEMENS AG 5 Jan 1970 [4 Jan 1969 4 June 1969] 506/70 Heading F4U A hollow rotary shaft 2 acts as a Perkins tube to cool the rotor 3 of an electrical machine, the liquid within the tube being evaporated in an intermediate zone 7, condensed at both ends and returns as a liquid lining by centrifugal action. Cooling ribs 16 and a fan 19 may be mounted on the shaft for cooling the evaporative areas and the shaft may be formed of various materials to give zones of differing thermal conductivity. Hollow cylinders may be coaxially mounted within the shaft to separate the vapour and liquid streams, and the cooling ribs may be replaced by a cooling fluid flowing through coils at both ends of the tube.
