Abstract

1282602 Electric switches BELL & HOWELL CO 5 Nov 1969 [29 Nov 1968] 54257/69 Heading H1N [Also in Division G2] The colour balance of an image displayed on a screen 94, Fig. 7, from an original 92 is adjusted by passing the viewing light through three filters 88R, 88B, 88G adjustably mounted so as to vary the colour of the light mix while maintaining a constant brightness, a remote controller 30 adjusting the position of the filters. The remote controller has a handle 46, Fig. 5, for moving a switch plate 28 in a horizontal plane, the plate having a equiangular triangular array of conductor strips 18D, 20D and 22D on its upper face and 18I, 20I and 22I on its lower face. Fixed contact sets 24R, 24B, 24G having upper and lower contact elements are arranged to correspond with the three spectral components and contact one of the conductor strips. Each conductor strip is connected to one of three terminals 68, 70, 72, Fig. 8, which are in turn connected to the outputs of a pulse generator, the number of pulses per second applied to each terminal being different. Each filter is mounted on a reversibly drivable stepping motor 86R, 86B, 86G, Fig. 8. The arrangement is such that during a change of hue the brightness of the viewing light is held at a constant level. Each prior filter position is a reference position from which the next setting of the filters is developed, the switch plate being spring mounted to return to a central position when released. A switch in the handle serves to adjust the brightness of the viewing light. The positions of the filters are sensed to produce a punched tape 100 which is used in a subsequent original printing process.
