Abstract
1281596 Fluid pressure brakes GIRLING Ltd 3 Sept 1970 [6 Sept 1969] 44179/69 Heading F2F [Also in Division F1] The peripheral head 38 of a rolling diaphragm 36 is clamped between an outwardly and radially directed shoulder 22 at one end portion of a generally cylindrical vacuum motor casing 10 and the rim 30 of an internal annular plate 26; the rim 30 being interposed between the head 38 and a circular row of inwardly directed dimples 24 formed in the casing adjacent the shoulder 22 thereof. The diaphragm 36 forms with the casing 10 a chamber 32 having a vacuum connection 56 and being in open communication through a spacer sleeve 58 with a chamber 46 hounded by a further rolling diaphragm 50 and an annular plate 40. The other side of diaphragm 50 forms with the casing end a chamber 48 connected by a duct 72 with a further chamber 34 bounded by diaphragm 36 and the annular plate 26. Chamber 48 and hence 34 may be connected to vacuum in chamber 46 or to atmospheric pressure according to the seating at 92, 90 of a known valve closure member 88 moved axially by a manual push rod 84. In operation and on pushing rod 84, diaphragms 36, 50 move to the left against a spring 68 and thus displace an output rod 82 which operates a brake master cylinder.
