Abstract

1280457 Holography readers RCA CORPORATION 5 Aug 1969 [6 Aug 1968] 37512/68 Heading G4M [Also in Division G2] An identification card includes a hologram of identification indicia. The identification indicia is recorded as a hologram of a representative predetermined binary coding in the form of spaced points of a given light pattern. Preferably a laser beam illuminates a predetermined combination of lenses L of a given array (those not used being blanked off), the transmitted light interfering with an on axis reference beam to form a hologram 220. When the hologram is illuminated with an appropriate reconstructing beam a reset image of the light pattern is formed, each point of which is sensed at a position corresponding to the position of the source in the original array. The read out beam may be non-coherent and polychromatic. To ensure complete interception of the reconstructed image the area of each sensing element is greater than the area of the image of each light source. It is desirable to decode the binary information which has been sensed to obtain a given number of the card and compare it with a registered number to indicate a predetermined relationship between such numbers. Such a card typically belongs to a system of cards each having a different number and thus different binary code. Logic means are provided responsive to the light sensing means for determining and verifying the associated indicia.
