Abstract
1280185 Rotary positive-displacement pumps S STAUBER 8 Aug 1969 [9 Aug 1968] 39872/69 Heading F1F To displace fluid between inlet and outlet openings 5, 6 in a housing 1 a rotor 7 having a body 12 and balls or rollers thereon engages with a flexible ring 13 on the inner side of a flexible and resilient ring 3, which as an axially-extending rib 4. In another embodiment, Figs. 2 and 3, the sleeve 20 and flexible ring 17 are deformed to effect the pumping action by balls or rollers 18 on a circular or elliptical shaft 16. When the shaft is circular the spacing of the balls or rollers is large and maintained by a cage 19. Sealing ribs 26, 50 are loaded by pressure transmitted from either the outlet opening 6 or an external pressure source 54. Alternatively, pressure is transmitted to the ribs 50 from the high pressure side of the rib 26 through a groove 57 for the latter, the rib 26 thus acting as a valve. Similar ribs are provided in the pump according to Fig. 1. The sleeve may be made of rubber or steel, the ring 17 being dispensed with in the latter instance. The balls or rollers may be replaced by ball bearings, Fig. 4 (not shown). Modifications of the ribs 50 and related parts of the housing are described briefly with reference to Figs. 5a to 5k (not shown), some of which modifications permit seals 52 to be dispensed with and others include a pressureloading duct in each rib.
