Abstract

127,940. Davies, W. E. May 31,1918. Composition fuel.-Coal, preferably containing from 10 to 40 per cent of volatile matter, is mixed with a resinous binder and moulded under known conditions into briquettes, which are perforated, bored, or otherwise formed to increase the area of their free surfaces. The amount of binder to be added is not greater than 10 per cent of the weight of the coal, and varies with the nature of the coal; some coals contain bituminous matter which serves as a resinous binder, and this, together with the added binder, which may be a true resin or bituminous matter similar to that in the coal, should amount to 6 to 18 per. cent of the weight of the coal. The Provisional Specification states also that shale, peat, or the like are formed into briquettes, and a small percentage of lime may be added.
