Abstract
1279368 Lasers COMPAGNIE GENERALE D'ELECTRICITE 23 April 1971 [23 April 1970] 11145/71 Heading H1C In a gas laser a carbon-nitrogen compound is reacted with oxygen or an oxygen compound in a reaction chamber 1, and expands adiabatically along a nozzle 2 through a resonator formed of mirrors 5 and 6 and windows 3 and 4. The carbon-nitrogen compound may be C 2 N 2 or C 4 N 2 , while the oxygen compound may be a peroxide such as NO or N 2 O 4 . The reaction produces temperatures around 5000‹ K., and emission is due to rotational levels. An output at 5 microns may be obtained from a transition in CO molecules. If CO 2 is injected by pipes 11 and 11 the output is a CO 2 transition at 10À6-10À8 microns. Gases other than CO 2 may also be injected. A reaction igniter 9 may be provided.
