1279295 Safety helmets KANGOL HELMETS Ltd 12 June 1970 [20 June 1969] 31400/ 69 Heading A3V A safety helmet comprises a rigid shell 10 having an inwardly directed circumferential protuberance 12, preferably at the level of a wearer's temples, and a rigid ring 14, preferably of steel, having an inner lining attached thereto, the ring engaging the underside of the protuberance to prevent the wearer's head and the inner lining from being forced into contact with the inside of the top of the shell. The inner lining may comprise a skull cap of stout fabric, e.g. linen as in Figs. I and 2 or may include a plurality of diametrically extending strips of webbing (46), (48), (50) as in Figs. 3 and 4 (not shown) or may comprise both a skull cap and strips of webbing. The skull cap, formed in two pieces, may be stitched into segments 18-22 and (23-25) respectively. A roll 28 of flexible material may be fitted as shown to enable the helmet to fit a range of head sizes, and a curtain 30 and ear pads 32, 34 may be included in the helmet. The curtain and the skull cap may be lined, and the protuberance may be integrally moulded with the shell or provided by a cork liner. In the embodiment of Figs. 3 and 4 the headband (54) of rigid material is attached to the wire ring by an annular web (56) of stout fabric.
