Abstract

1279036 Adhesive tape handles PACK-CONSULT AB and P G MEKANISKA AB 10 Aug 1970 [12 Aug 1969] 38481/70 Heading B8C Adhesive tape handles for packages are made by adhering a strip of non-adhesive material to the central portion of the adhesive side of an adhesive strip and adhering the ends of the tape to a package. As shown, a length of adhesive strip 1 is drawn from a supply roll 2 by a gripper 34 carried on a slider 20 which is horizontally reciprocated by a piston and cylinder device 14, 15 through a bell crank lever 16 pivoted at 9 and connected to the slider by a roller 18 running in a channel 19 connected to the slider 20. A web of non-adhesive material 3 is drawn from a supply roll 4 transversely to the feed direction of strip 1 by means of a brush 29 held on an arm (30) which is reciprocated by means of a roller co-operating with a cam surface (33) carried by the slider 20. The web 3 is severed transversely by a cutter 36 depressed by a cam roller 42 carried by the slider 20 and the resulting strip 5 is transferred to the underside of strip 1 by a reciprocating counter holder 43 to which it is held by suction. The adhesive strip 1 and strip 5 are pressed together by means of a plunger 60 passing through a hub 53 which is reciprocated by a piston and cylinder device 51, 52. The adhesive strip is severed from the supply roll by means of a cutter (59) attached to a guide sleeve 55 operated by the piston and cylinder device 51, 52 through a rod 54 and the hub 53. The adhesive ends of the strip are pressed on to the sides of a package 8 by two rollers 63, 64 adjustably positioned through resilient steel strips 65, carrier arms 66 and hubs 67 on the rod 54.
