1278829 Preventing overturning; controlling motor vehicles H D HEWITT 25 Aug 1969 42181/69 Headings B7D and B7H A wheeled vehicle 13, such as a tractor, fourwheel drive vehicle, construction vehicle, tracklaying vehicle, or a self-propelled military or farm vehicle, comprises apparatus for automatically preventing or delaying overturn, the apparatus comprising a plurality of thrustproducing means 11 and sensing means for energizing one or more of the thrust-producing means when a predetermined degree of inclination is attained. The thrust-producing means may employ liquid or solid rocket fuel, or compressed gas. The sensing means, of which there may be one for each thrust-producing means may operate more than one thrust-producing means. The sensing means may be one or more mercury switches, pendulum devices, gyroscopes, or artificial turn-and bank indicators. In order to permit increased wheel adhesion, the thrust-producing means may be separately energizable manually. Also, the thrust-producing means may be set at an angle to assist movement of the vehicle. The sensing means may also actuate warning lights, or to disconnect the motor ignition system, or to disconnect the power train e.g. by energizing an explosive bolt in the drive shaft, or opening a valve to deactivate a fluid transmission circuit.
