1278204 Vehicle-mountable scrapers A R EDWARDS 19 April 1971 [11 Feb 1970 5 May 1970] 6455/70 and 21504/70 Heading E1F A vehicle-mountable scraper comprises a scraper blade 10, a pair of wing structures 11, 12 projecting from one face of the blade at or near the ends thereof, and means 15 for so securing the scraper to lift arms 21 mounted on a vehicle that the scraper when secured to the arms will pivot relative to the arms about an axis parallel to said face of the blade and intersecting the wing structures. Such a scraper can thus have the blade correctly presented, without dismounting of the scraper from the vehicle, irrespective of the scraper being pushed or pulled by the vehicle. This presentation is obtained by raising the lift arms so that the scraper will pivot about the axis, the wing structures then pointing upwards, lowering the arms so that the back of the blade will engage the surface to be scraped, and then moving the vehicle either forwards or rearwards to cause the wings to swing down against the surface and point in a direction appropriate to the intended direction of movement of the vehicle. In the embodiment shown the means comprise a shaft 15 extending through the lift arms 21 in a direction parallel to the face of the blade 10 to enter slots 13, 14 in the wing structures. In another embodiment the means comprise two pivot pins disposed parallel to the face of the blade and mounted in connecting lugs projecting forwardly from the blades face. The distance between the blade and the axis is such that a major proportion of the weight of the scraper lies on the blade side of the axis. This condition may be caused by weighting of the blade with a metal strip. The wings are of hollow, wedge shaped construction and the edges of the wings and the blades can be covered by replaceable wear strips of rubber.
