Abstract

1278013 Citric acid KYOWA HAKKO KOGYO CO Ltd 11 Feb 1970 [14 Feb 1969] 6579/70 Heading C2C Citric and isocitric acids are prepared by culturing Candida zeylanoides under aerobic conditions in aqueous nutrient medium containing a carbon source, a nitrogen source, inorganic compounds and nutrients. A strain or mutant strain A.T.C.C. 15585 is preferred and the hydrocarbons may be straight or branched chain alkanes, alkenes, mixed hydrocarbons such as kerosene, light and heavy oils, paraffin and gas oils and petroleum imides, sugars and sugar alcohols or organic acids. Inorganic or organic nitrogen compounds or natural substances containing nitrogen are also mentioned. The citric and isocitric are recovered from the liquor by ion-exchange treatment, extraction, distillation or absorption.
