Abstract

1277478 Air rectification process PETROCARBON DEVELOPMENTS LTD 24 April 1970 [29 May 1969] 27378/69 Heading F4P In a two-stage compressed air separation process for the production of gaseous oxygen which is withdrawn from the lower end of low pressure column 14 at above atmospheric pressure through a line 22 and for the production of nitrogen gas which is withdrawn from the head of colunn 14 through a line 23, the cold requirements of the process one in part met by withdrawing waste product gas from column 14 through a line 26, work-expanding at least a portion thereof at a turbine 17 and recovering the cold thereof by indirect heat exchange at 11, 10 with incoming feed air in a line 21. Liquid oxygen as product may be withdrawn from column 14 through a line 28, subcooled in a heat exchanger 30 and expanded to atmospheric pressure at a value 20 responsive to a liquid level controller 31 which when liquid oxygen product is not required controls an expansion valve 19 transversed by that portion of waste nitgrogen product not to be expanded at 17.
