Abstract

1277207 Automatic temperature control systems PYE Ltd 7 July 1969 [20 Sept 1968] 44842/68 Heading G3R A temperature control system comprises a means for feeding a current increasing from zero to a maximum in a predetermined number of increments each of equal magnitude and duration to a controller modifying the setting of a temperature reference circuit. The current increments are governed by an oscillator 10 feeding pulses through a binary counter 9 operating switches S1-S7 connecting a plurality of resistors R1-R7 arranged in a binary progression to a bridge network Fig. 2 (not shown). In a modification a known bridge incorporating temperature dependent resistors TH1, TH2 giving a linear characteristic over a range of temperatures is modified by resistors R21-R26 connected to switches S8, S9 which set the initial and final temperature values. In a refinement Fig. 5 (not shown) the resistors S1-S7 control the relative conductivities of a pair of differentially arranged transistors (TR1-TR2). The bridge may control a thyristor in series with a heater in a chromatograph oven. It is preferable, but not essential that temperature changes should be substantially linear with time and also desirable that changes at different times should follow the same law.
