1276290 Knitting machines; pile fabrics SINGER CO 26 March 1970 [4 April 1969] 14762/70 Headings D1C and D1K A sinker top circular knitting machine for the production of plated fabric comprises a cam section having a cam 12 for raising the needles to a knit position where they take a yarn 26, a cam 16 for lowering them to sinker throat level where the yarn is held below the rib 28 of the sinker as a cam 14 raises the needles to tuck position and means for feeding a second yarn 30 at that position. As the needle, which then holds both yarns in plating relationship, is lowered the sinker is withdrawn slightly so that identical loops are drawn in each yarn. In a modification certain sinkers may be retained in their forward position so that longer loops of yarn 30 are drawn thus producing a looped pile effect.
