Abstract
1275755 Gas turbine plant ROLLS-ROYCE Ltd 4 Sept 1969 [14 Sept 1968| 43821/68 Heading F1G A closed cycle gas turbine power plant comprises compressor means, means to heat working fluid compressed by the compressor means and turbine means arranged to be driven by the heated working fluid, there being means for adjusting the temperature of the working fluid entering and/or flowing within the compressor means so as to adjust the power output of the power plant. In the embodiment shown which is similar to that described in Specifications 1275753 and 1275754, the working fluid is helium which is heated in a nuclear reactor 22. The working fluid is compressed in LP compressor 14, cooled in interstage cooler 16, further compressed in HP compressor 18 and then pre-heated in recuperator 20. The fluid is then further heated in nuclear reactor 22 and passed to HP turbine 24 which is connected to drive the compressors 14, 18 by means not shown. The fluid then passes through control valve 34 to LP turbine 32 which drives a useful load, (not shown). The fluid then passes to recuperator 20, finally passing to pre-cooler 12 before re-entering the LP compressor 14. The working fluid is cooled in the pre-cooler 12 and intercooler 16 by pure water circulated by a constant speed pump 50 in two circuits, the pure water itself being cooled in two external coolers 52, 54 through which water such as sea or river water is circulated by a variable speed pump.
