Abstract
1,274,827. Lamps. THORN ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 22 Jan., 1971, No. 2994/71. Heading F4R. A lamp socket 14 which is axially adjustable along a tubular housing 13 can be locked in any one of a plurality of axial locations by means of a ratchet 15 and detent 16, two of each being employed in the preferred embodiment. The ratchets, which are formed in the limbs 17 of a U-shaped bracket 18 secured to the socket, each consist of a main elongated slot 20 with subsidiary slots 21 extending laterally on either side thereof, whilst the detents, which are formed at opposite ends of a U-shaped leaf spring 24 secured to the housing, each consist of a pair of lugs 25 adapted to engage in the slots 21. Studs 26 secured to the ends of the leaf spring project through the slots 20 and through apertures 27 in the housing and form means for releasing the detents. The socket is biased by a coil spring 31, and its movements within the tube are guided by the engagement of the limbs 17 in grooves (not shown) in the wall of the housing. The housing carries a reflector (not shown) and may be pivoted to a wall or ceiling or fitted to an overhead electricity distribution track.
