Abstract
1,273,742. Liquid withdrawing apparatus. K. W. ATHERLEY. 12 Nov., 1969 [15 Aug., 1968], No. 39056/68. Heading A5R. A tube assembly of a plastics material for withdrawing a liquid from a part of the body comprises an elongate, translucent or transparent container (10) Fig. 1 (not shown), a first flexible tube 11 passing through an opening at one end of the container (10) and extending into a second opening at the other end, a second flexible tube 12, of an exterior diameter slightly larger than that of the interior diameter of the first tube 11, inserted into the end of the tube 11 at the second opening of the container (10), which tube 11 is formed with a seal in the portion within the container (10) dividing this portion into two discrete portions each having an opening 11a, 12a. One of the said portions is in communication with the remainder of the tube 11 and the other, with the tube 12 which tube is placed with its free end in contact with a source of liquid, the seal being preferably made by flattening the wall of the tube 11 at the desired point by heat and pressure. The openings 11a and 12a are formed in the proximity of the seal, one on either side, and generally diametrically opposite each other. Tube 11 is sealed to the container (10) at the points of contact by heat application or by separate rubber closures and an integral mouthpiece 14 is formed at the free end of the tube 11. The appliance is marketed in a sterile container and is intended for use once only. Suction is applied by the operator at the mouthpiece 14 and the fluid to be collected is retained within the container (10). In a modification the tube portion within the container (10) may comprise two separate aligned tubes, adjacent ends being sealed from each other and one tube in communication with the tube 11 and one with the tube 12.
