Abstract

1,273,547. Catheters. WILLIAM WARNE & CO. Ltd. 4 June, 1969 [22 July, 1968], No. 34872/68. Heading A5R. A catheter comprises a catheter tube 1 with an aperture 3 in its side wall adjacent to the end of the tube to be inserted into a vein, and a bent needle 7 which is suitable for insertion into the tube 1 with the pointed end 9 of the needle projecting from the tube so that in use the needle end punctures the vein, the other end 11 of the needle protruding from the aperture 3 of the tube. After puncture the needle may be withdrawn through the aperture and the catheter pushed into the vein until the aperture lies within the vein.
