Abstract

1,272,486. Superfatted detergent product. COLGATE-PALMOLIVE CO. 18 July, 1969 [22 July, 1968], No. 36267/69. Heading C5D. A process of producing a superfatted detergent product comprises mixing a detergent type sulphonic acid with a neutral soap to liberate fatty acid sufficient to impart superfatting properties to the product and neutralize the sulphonic acid, and working the superfatted soap containing the sulphonic acid salt into a finished product. The product comprises soap, free fatty acid in sufficient proportion to impart superfatting properties to the product and a sulphonic acid detergent salt in stoichiometric relation to the free fatty acid content. The fatty acids liberated may amount to from 1 to 25%, prefer ably 1 to 8 % by weight of the product. Additional conventional anionic synthetic detergent salt may be added to bring the detergent to soap ratio within the range 1 : 4 to 1À5 : 1. The sulphonic acid used generally has 8 to 20 carbon atoms in the aliphatic chain. The fat charge used in making the neutral soap is preferably a charge comprising 50-70% by weight tallow and 50-30% by weight of the oils of the coconut type, such as coconut oil, palm kernel oil and babassu oil. Other fatty materials specified are palm oil, animal fats, oleic oil, tall oils, rosin, castor oil, groundnut oil, linseed oil, cottonseed oil and fish oils. The saponifying caustic alkali is preferably sodium hydroxide but this may be replaced by up to 15% by weight potassium hydroxide. The soap may be made by the conventional kettle soap making process and is in the form of a bar. Further ingredients specified are preservatives, such as 2-6-ditertiary butyl p-cresol, t-butyl hydroxy anisole and triphenyl phosphite; perfume; and sodium chloride.
