Abstract

1,271,230. Frictional waistbands. H. G. GRAHAM & SON Ltd. 8 Dec., 1969 [10 Dec., 1968], No. 58651/68. Heading A3V. A frictional waistband comprises one or more facing strips 2, a backing strip 1, and a frictional insert 3 attached to and between them, the insert 3 being formed from a strip of woven synthetic material with a central longitudinal zone 4 of friction material and a weakened zone of a different weave structure 5 on each side of the friction material, along which weakened zones of the parts of the waistband are sewn together. Such a waistband does not pucker on sewing together the parts since the zones 5, which may be zones of looser weave than the rest of the woven synthetic material, provide little resistance to the sewing needle. The friction material may comprise rubber threads woven into the synthetic material in a single operation, the zone 5 being formed by adjustment of the weaving machine. Alternatively the friction material may be a strip of foamed rubber adhesively secured to the woven material. The backing strip 1 may be of canvas and the facing strips 2 of cotton.
