Abstract

1,271,212. Sandwich-type packages. INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORP. 7 Jan., 1970 [17 Jan., 1969], No: 758/70. Heading B8C. In a method of packaging pathology specimens, so that the specimen can be stained, coated, cover slipped, cleaned, and viewed in the customary manner, a specimen S is placed on a carrier sheet 11 of optically clear plastics and is coated with a liquid mounting medium 15, and then a similar, larger, sheet 12, which provides a small border around all edges of about 0À100 inch, when superposed over the smaller sheet 11 and having a border of approximately 0À200 inch, of pressure-sensitive adhesive 13, is pressed down on to the sheet 11, to leave an adhesive border which is pressed against a shoulder 19 to mount the sandwich 11, 12 in an opening 18 in a flat record element 18. A temporary cover-sheet 14 of glassine paper is removed from the sheet 12 before it is applied to the sheet 11. Also before the sandwich 11, 12 is mounted in the record element 17, which may be inscribed, punchkeyed &c., liquid is squeegeed from between the sheets and it is cleaned in a solvent. The shoulder 19 is not coated with a solvent, and when mounted in the element 17 the sandwich is confined within the bounds of the element.
